Super Mario Generations Mod Now Available For Sonic Generations Gamer

2 minutes read

Now here’s something you don’t see everyday: Super Mario being squeezed into a Sonic game. Usually we see Super Mario mods a dime a dozen working with hacked ROMs, but this time Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad and Wario are just a few of the many characters appearing in the partial conversion mod for the PC version of Sonic Generations.

Lead by Daku Neko, the mod replaces the NPCs, Sonic, Dr. Eggman and the sound effects and graphical effects to reflect the change of Mario being in the game over Sonic. The team working on the mod have been doing so for more than an entire year, fixing the animations, tweaking the gameplay and testing the boss fights.

According to Daku Neko on the Moddb page…

You can see what the mod looks like in action with the video below.

While the trailer is pretty cool, I’m sure plenty of you really want to see what the game looks like running natively with the mod in place. How stable is it? How optimized is it? Are the sounds and effects in the right order? Do the characters glitch? Are there any instability issues with the new boss fights? Etc., etc.

Thankfully YouTuber TheRealSonicFan recently uploaded 15 minutes worth of footage of the mod in action that you can check out below, featuring the completely altered HUD, a brand new start menu screen and Mario and his indubitable charm.

If the mod looks like the sort of thing that you would want to give a spin in your version of Sonic Generations, you will need the SonicGMI, better known as the Sonic Generations Mod Installer. This will help you get the files all in the right order and done fast and efficient the first time around.

You can get the latest version of SonicGMI v1.1 from over on the Sonic Retro website.

There are different versions of the mod avaliable as well, including the all-in-one package that features everything, and lite versions that just offer partial conversion properties to keep down on taking up a lot of hard drive space.

The mod is available right now, for free. You can download the complete package or the other lite versions from over on the Moddb page.
