Blizzard announced Nova Covert Ops for StarCraft 2. It comes just ahead of the launch of Legacy of the Void, the campaign expansion for Blizzard’s highly popular RTS title.
The expansion will total nine brand new missions broken down into three separate mission packs that will contain three missions each.
Gameranx did a write-up on the news based on an interview that GameSpot conducted with senior designer Kristopher Howl, who explained that Nova Covert Ops was for the gamers who silently craved more campaign content out of StarCraft 2, saying…
What good is an announcement without something to whet the appetites of fans? Blizzard didn’t just text and tease, they unveiled something visual to appease. You can check out the teaser trailer for the Nova micro-campaign below.
This is a nice homage to a very beloved character, especially following on Blizzard’s cancellation of the console game, StarCraft: Ghost, which was a third-person shooter starring the Terran “ghost”, Nova.
According to Howl, what gamers didn’t get to experience in Ghost they might get to experience – at least as far as lore is concerned – in the upcoming Nova Covert Ops…
The first three missions will be let loose into the wild starting in the spring of 2016, likely around the time when Overwatch launches. So there’s going to be something for the FPS junkies and something for the RTS junkies.
From there Blizzard will roll out the next two packs, each containing three missions per pack. Who knows, maybe if the mission packs show a great deal of success we could see a real revival of StarCraft: Ghost starring everyone’s favorite special ops psychic?
