Nintendo’s Hyrule Warriors Trailer Indicates It’s 720p For Wii U Gamer

2 minutes read

Nintendo released a brand new trailer for the upcoming Zelda game from Tecmo Koei, Omega Force and Team Ninja called . The trailer focuses on Link’s Hylian sword.

While the trailer is pretty slick and stops short just before the 1 minute and 20 second mark, there’s something that I just couldn’t stop thinking about: why didn’t Team Ninja or Omega Force up the AA filter?

Anti-aliasing helps a ton, especially for a game like , where you can easily see the pixel steps (in still frames without compression artifacts) that very much guarantee that the game will run native 720p on the Wii U when it releases this September. Don’t just let my description of the aliased jaggies corrupt your perception of the game, check it out for yourself in the trailer below.

It’s funny because this was a similar problem that suffered from on the Wii U, and was duly noted in the thorough performance analysis by Digital Foundry.

Of course, isn’t finished yet and there’s still some time that it could get some post-processing effects to help smooth over the experience. However, with Nintendo diving head-first into the HD era, hopefully they’ll fine tune some of their games (or work with second parties in doing so) in order to make the most out of the title(s) for the Wii U.

As for … the game looks good enough for what it’s aiming to achieve. Hopefully they can at least get some additional AA in there before release. While it’s unlikely that the game will get a native rendering boost to 1080p – all of the screenshots and trailers, so far, appear to indicate that it will be native 720p, as showcased on Zelda Informer – at least the art-style and fast and furious gameplay will make up for it.

You can look for to release throughout the middle and end of September, exclusively for the Wii U. Need more info? Feel free to hit up the official website.
