Wii U Sales Slow Down In Japan, But It Still Beats PS4 Gamer

a minute read

The Wii U is starting to slow down in its sales momentum in Japan on a week-to-week basis. Nintendo’s console for the eighth generation of gaming hasn’t really bottomed out but it is on a steady decline from its big boost that took place in May.

Nintendo Everything rolled out the weekly sales charts for software and hardware from Media Create ending on the week of July 6th.

The Wii U is still riding in third-place behind the 3DS LL and the PS Vita, which has really made a big comeback these days. Nevertheless, the little Wii U-that-could only sufficed to move 9,961 SKUs for the week ending on July 6th. That’s down from the previous week where the console moved 10,653 SKUs.

The PS4 hasn’t been faring much better, with Sony’s fourth-generation home console only managing to move 7,876 units in the past week, as opposed to the week prior where the console topped 8,059 units. The really disturbing part about it is that the PS3 was only 300 SKUs behind the PS4 in this most recent week’s sales.

That means that with a few hundred more units the PS3 could sell as much as the PS4… or potentially more.

As for Nintendo and the Wii U… they’ll really need to hedge big on the release of this August, when it launches in Japan. They at least have a good follow-up of first and third-party games to look forward to from then on, but it’s all a matter of getting through the tough months of July and the first half of August.
