Lots of big news happened following the public release of Ubisoft’s quarterly figures. They put them up for the world to see and the world saw. The reaction has been less than stellar for some camps, however, as Ubisoft made known their stance on the Wii U all while their numbers told a story itself regarding the desperate battle between the PS4 and Xbox One.
Technically, it’s more like the Xbox One is in a desperate battle with it’s own image. The PS4 is just cleaning house and taking names like a thief in a Beverly Hills house while the owners are out on the town and a moving van is there at his disposal.
Videogamer.com scoped out the numbers from Ubisoft’s latest shareholder information, where it was revealed that in the last quarter the PS4 sold double the amount of Ubisoft software over the Xbox One. It’s not even a twist or a play on words. Read and weep at the incorrigible figures below.
The PS4’s lead from those numbers are so sharp that it would make a pin blush with envy.
A lot of that lead is expected to have come from the exclusive deal Sony and Ubisoft struck for , where the game totaled 8 million units shipped, 2 million of which were supposedly sold on the PS4, as noted by VG Chartz. The rest of the load is spread out evenly amongst the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Xbox One. That’s to be expected given that allegedly, Sony has shipped 9 million PS4 units, where-as Microsoft has only shipped 5 million.
And what about the Wii U? Well, as the stats show, Ubisoft has been treating Nintendo’s little Wii U like a bastard child from third-world country. Much like EA and 2K Games, Ubisoft has opted to give the Wii U as little support – both in marketing and proper software support – as corporately possible.
is still planned to release on the Wii U this fall, but under very precarious circumstances. Don’t expect any commercials or strong ad support from Ubisoft or Nintendo.

He goes on to dribble some butter on the possibility of putting the Wii U back into the game, and waxes graciously some words of flattery about Nintendo and their software, all while making the backhanded comment about the system no longer getting any support from them.
It’s like getting kicked in the gonads while they simultaneously grab you and support you as you fall to the ground in agonizing pain. Thank you, Ubisoft, for kicking Nintendo fans in the gonads.
So what does this mean for the Wii U’s future? Well, if Nintendo doesn’t single-handedly turn around the momentum of their console, no one else is going to help them.
The company’s aim for quality releases and opting for non-standardized hardware made them an outlier this generation, and even though they’re producing some of the best video games this generation will ever see, they’re paying a hefty price at the hands of the greed mongers who stand tall at the top of the mountain we call “AAA publishing”.
Now, on the upside: Ubisoft has said that they have two exclusive titles in the wings for the Wii U. If the sales get better (even though the Wii U is in second place behind the PS4) Ubisoft says they’ll announce the titles for Nintendo’s console.
