Some leaked footage of LucasArts’ canceled Star Wars: First Assault has made its way online. The footage contains 19 minutes of gameplay, no bots and no vehicles. The game was supposed to be a digital only release on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Gameranx picked up the news from over on Reddit, where the leaked footage was posted. You can check it out below.
The footage garnered mixed results in regards to feedback. While most gamers felt as if the quality of the gameplay was intact and that the engine looked good for an Xbox 360 and PS3 title, others felt as if it was too much of a mimic on the Call of Duty design paradigm.

To be fair, it wasn’t just a Call of Duty clone. While the bots and vehicles aren’t showcased in the near 20 minutes of footage above, they were spotted in glimpses of gameplay footage leaked before the game was canceled by LucasArts. You can check out some of the footage below from SpinFlySim267.
Definitely not a Call of Duty clone.
Even still, on the Reddit page the comments about it being a clone of Activision’s prime-time shooter were some of the top comments on the page, with EliteDangerous writing…
Some felt the game looked awful, others thought it looked good. A few debated about whether or not it was better than DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront. The more levelheaded group just figured it was tough to tell what the game was like based on a single person running around in a level.

The footage above with the vehicles actually makes the game look really cool and potentially fun to play.
A single level with no bots, no real gameplay and nothing polished makes it an easy target for certain groups to say “See, look… DICE’s Battlefront is better!”
Sorry to say but even this early technical build doesn’t absolve DICE’s Battlefront from being boring and content deficient. Also just keep in mind that when the game does release never stop comparing it to what was featured in a game released a decade ago (although a few of the features in the comparison are inaccurate because there is AI in the additional game modes and AT-ATs can be played on rails).
