GTA 5 Short, Escape From Cluckin’ Bell, Examines Animal Torture Gamer

Rockstar’s GTA V seems to provide endless opportunities for gamers to explore their gaming desires through mods, just the same as it provides auteurs with endless opportunities to explore various kinds of subject matter within the medium of video game machinima.

One of the newest short-films to come out for GTA V is from Lee Iovino, the same mind behind the Blink 182 music video recreated in GTA V and the United States of Whatever. You can check out his latest short below called “Escape From Cluckin Bell”. The subtext seems fairly apparent in the four and a half minute long short, which was posted up on his YouTube channel.

The video starts off with a look at some obese individuals eating themselves into a delighted frenzy at the fictional restaurant in GTA called Cluckin’ Bell, a mix of Church’s Chicken and Taco Bell.

The scene switches over to a slaughter house for the chickens where we follow one lone chicken as it skips through the warehouse and witnesses what befalls its fellow brethren.

I was expecting a more lighthearted almost cinematically comical tone; perhaps the chicken wall-hugging and peeping around corners or creating goofball antics to slip-up the workers and stage a getaway. However, the video doesn’t go down that route at all. It does just the opposite… it plays it straight with a lot of faceless butchering going on.

The only “comical” part is the worker who can’t get the candy out of the vending machine, but the laughs are only played to the effect of the worker being unceremoniously livid. But otherwise the short is a well-shot, straight-as-an-arrow depiction of what chickens go through before turning into smoking hot breasts for people to suckle on and devour.

The real kicker for the short is the intermittent clips from the documentary Tyson Tortures Animals. What’s interesting is that the real-life clips actually blend seamlessly into the short so that it all feels like one coherent sequence.

It’s a departure from the music-videos that Iovino have posted up before but it’s a well-shot short to say the least.
