The Witcher Live-Action Movie Set For Release In 2017 Gamer

2 minutes read

A live-action movie based on The Witcher short stories from Andrzej Sapkowski’s about Geralt of Rivia will be released in 2017. The movie will be a Polish-based action-adventure film following Geralt as he slays monsters and presumably perform his manly duties of being the medieval Polish version of 007 by sleeping with more women than most average guys will even lay eyes on in their lifetime.

VG 24/7 spotted the news from the Polish version of Eurogamer. The film will be directed by Tomasz Baginski and written by Thania St. John. St. John is apparently a writer on Grimm, which isn’t a very good show, and Baginski is known for his work on… well he’s not well known for his work at all given that he’s only worked on short films. Look, that’s not to say that a guy who only worked on short films can’t make a good impression with a large-scale live-action film, it’s just to say… well… he doesn’t have a very extensive pedigree.

According to the VG 24/7 article the movie will lay the foundation for a follow-up television series based on The Witcher as well. CD Projekt Red supposedly won’t be involved with the actual production of the film or the subsequent television show.

Interestingly enough, there’s already a Witcher TV series that aired over in Poland. You can get a glimpse of what it looks like with the video below from BruDhearg.

The cinematography in that show actually wasn’t all that bad. The major drawback was that it seemed like Xena/Hercules quality in terms of the actual production values. Nevertheless, Geralt is somewhat of a cultural icon over there in Poland so it will be interesting to see what the movie will look like when it arrives in two years.

In the meantime, CD Projekt Red is still pumping out DLC for The Witcher 3 and working on Cyberpunk 2077. You can grab the former for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One and you can look for the latter to arrive no sooner than 2017.
