If there’s one thing Square Enix is good at, it’s merging other properties within their vast catalog together through various nods. While PlatinumGames is currently developing NieR: Automata, it’s a Square Enix property that spans as far back as Drakengard. With the action title coming out only a couple months after Final Fantasy XV, Square Enix is collaborating with PlatinumGames to join the two universes together in a non-canonical way.
Square Enix has released a video giving players a sneak peek at what this collaboration will entail. The protagonist, YoRHa No.2 Type B, is shown using Noctis’ Engine Blade to cut through her opponents. This will also come with its own set of moves, specifically allowing YoRHa to teleport around just like Noctis does in his game.
NieR: Automata will be available for PlayStation 4 on February 23 in Japan. Unfortunately, no release date has been confirmed for North America and Europe, but at least it will come with a PC version.
